VALENTINES DAY FOR SAMMY

We love our big
black dog, Sammy, here at Jake's
house on North Rim Road, and this is the story of what we did for
him on Valentines Day.
After
"The
Paper, 97760" came out last week, and let us know about the
impending dog licensing procedure that would be held this month at
the CAR Administration office, by Elaine Henderson the Jefferson
County Clerk, we rushed our Black Lab over to the Vet's
in Terrebonne and got his annual health check-up and rabies shot
upgrade.
When we decided to
do this we also had a long discussion about neutering. When Sammy
was around we called it tutoring
so he didn't
have a clue. A dirty trick, you say? Not really. We just wanted
to spare him the worry and stress associated with that N
word.
So on Tuesday, he
thought he was leaving home to go to school and get some formal
learning. I had to let Phyllis take him - I couldn't
stand this awful deception.
We knew it would be
possible this procedure, could generate feelings of hostility,
helplessness and big time thoughts on how to carry on the family
name, not to mention excuses to the girl friend. Any half-witted,
even ill informed male of any species I=m
sure would have thought along these lines that would be certain to
surface, and rightly so.
Even though Sammy is
no a Rocket
Scientist
or any type of great thinker, (He has trouble with Speak,
and Roll
Over
would be out of the question), we still like to think that he
knows what we are talking about and we always made sure he was
privy to what's
happening in the family. He had been so trusting and loving, ever
since we got him as a pup. A regular family member.
Even as I write
this, my legs are crossing - Sympathy spasms I suppose, and it had
to be a holiday, the only day we could get an appointment -
Valentine's
Day!
What a bummer for
Sam! That hurts twice as much. The ones that you've
loved and trusted all this time. Couldn't
they have at least waited until Armistice day or something?
Try explaining to Sammy that the
license fee will be cut in half. I don't
believe that fee is uppermost in his mind, not is that the cut he's
worrying about.
When we got home,
Tuesday evening, he wasn't
all that chipper. The Vet said it would be a day or two until he
got back on his feet and would resume being his usual
happy-go-lucky self. He looks a little down in the mouth, and
doesn't
seem to be all that glad to see us. I know what kind of thoughts
have got to be going through his head.
Probably what's
on his mind is, Jeez,
Valentines day, wasn't
so hot. I ended up with an empty sack and no dinner. I wonder
what they got planned for me on my Birthday?
